Tent stitches are the basic stitches that will allow you to get started on your first project. A tent stitch is small, diagonal stitch that crosses over the intersection of one horizontal (weft) and one vertical (warp) thread of needlepoint canvas forming a slanted stitch.
Tent Stitches
There are a few different tent stitch variations—all have the same appearance on the front of the canvas but are worked differently on the back. These are our fave tent stitches:
Continental Stitch
Easiest to learn, this is the most basic and commonly used stitch. A variation of the tent stitch that covers the back of the canvas more evenly.
Basketweave Stitch
Best for large areas and for securing threads.. Provides the thickest weave on the back making it the most durable needlepoint stitch.
